 A Day Out At Malham
|
Born and brought up in Golcar , I was
taught to play the piano by a local Piano Teacher, Kenneth
Sykes. Although blind he could
always tell if I was using the wrong fingering to play a piece of music.
At the age of 9 I was given
my first trumpet by my school Knowl Bank. Being better on trumpet than
piano I gave up piano concentrate on the trumpet.I joined Scapegoat Hill Silver Prize Band
and from then on Brass Bands took over.
During the next 20 years I had the privilege of playing with many of the
best Brass Bands in the Country, including:
- Foden`s Motor Works
- Yorkshire Imperial Metals
- Black Dyke Mills
At the age of 15, my then cornet teacher asked me
if I would like to train to be a piano technician ,a job I loved from the
start and still after 25 years still love now.I travel a radius of approximately 20 miles of
the Huddersfield area including:
- Halifax
- Mirfield and Dewsbury
- Oldham

Over the years I have tuned piano's for concert's in all
the Town Hall's of the area as well as for The Huddersfield Contempory
Music Festival, Hayden Wood and Mrs. Sunderland
Competitions. Although most tunings are done in private houses I
have tuned for John Miles, Lindisfarne ,George Melly and John
Briggs. |
